Amnesty International

We are talking about where to go when we get older and want another place to live.

Where we would like to live would be too expensive. We must choose somewhere that is easy to reach by train, and somewhere others will like to visit.

Our town is going downhill.
The main activity here is a military barracks. It is leaving and the population will fall, the price of houses will fall and shopping will be less easy as there will be fewer customers.

It's hard to combine all the things we would prefer or need.
We shall never have a car so we must live in a town.
We wouldn't like not to have a small garden or a large terrace.
We would need facilities for shopping or by delivery.

Then we would need a good medical service.
We have thought of places on Lake Geneva on the southern French side. We would love to live in Switzerland but would have to win at the lottery first!

............ We'll see.
Pipe dreams perhaps but serious ones. :D

Lake Geneva sounds good, but expensive. Pity you have to move, but better now because it can suddenly be altogether too late all of a sudden, as you know.
Faced with a similar situation in my family.
Hope all yr other problems have eased a little now for you.
:D
Cheers!
Anu

It sounds like a difficult choice to make! I hope you can find somewhere that fits all the things you want.

Hello Anu.

We don't have to move. We can't now.
We could stay where we are and most probably will do that for a while yet.

I think we were collectively pipe dreaming today.

Switzerland is my husband's dream.

Since it's really too expensive, Evian or Thonon might be possibilities.
When we can we might go to visit the area for a few days to see the housing market.

It's all very imaginary, I fear.

Things here haven't really changed.

Thanks for commenting.:)

Sounds like a bunch of negatives. D=

I'm sure you'll find a better place to live. But while the prices of your housees are lowering, our are rising. lol

Let's dream, then... Why not Avignon, or Aix-en-Provence? Or if you still dream about the sea, but not the Riviera, why not La Rochelle? A gloriously beautiful city, on the sea-side.
I can go on dreaming for you, if you wish....
dreams are the stuf our lives are made of (I can misquote all I like, if it fits!)
Please, keep dreaming! :rose:

Le midi... too hot!
Le Mistral!

La Rochelle... wind!

Paris... not enough pension!

La Loire... yes!

L'Alsace perhaps.

Plenty of choice actually. :D

Yes, we follow the problems of your housing market and the tragedies of so many families who have to leave their homes.
It's shocking.

I was convinced La Rochelle would have been perfect for you.... No sea-side is exempt of wind - is there anything wrong about that? Beautiful city, the ocean everyday, warm but not too hot weather.... So much to paint, sunsets every nights, the changing weather on the sea... If I left Paris, THAT's where I'd like to live. There, or in Avignon.
But yes, the choice is endless, and all yours... Have fun dreaming, Shoshana! =p
