Yes, sadism, as opposed to what Sade himself said, is well and truly a dehumanising tool, and, turned into a government system and used systematically against specific categories of people, a deliberate destruction tool aimed at those people. Slow, painful, dehumanising destruction - and, seemingly like the H bomb, destruction long after the destructive system has been abolished. The systematic reduction of the spirit and body to a mass of agonizing nothingness is like radioactivity. It kills even if the victim has survived the process, and long after he/she has seemingly recovered from it. In short, you never really recover from it. It might be one of the great victories of the third Reich, and all its faithful followers (Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc.).
